Week 1 and 2 activites for games design (Project Momentum)
Week 1
One Paragraph: Momentum is a fast paced futuristic stealth game with no brakes. you are the star of the worlds biggest racing event until you are framed in a conspiracy to shut down the event, you have to find out who did this and why?
Back Story: The year is 2430 and the earth has continued to expand it's technology and enginuity to a point where the earths O-zone layer has been completely destroyed which lead humanity to create it's own atmosphere using terror formers, the earth's size has doubled due to the amount of building that has taken place. The whole world is covered in skyscrapers and has been split into upper and lower class area's of society, above cloud level is the higher/richer class of people and below the clouds is the slums and lower class people.
The world is obsessed with the main form of entertainment, a race. In the race you can use any form of vehicle to get from A to B in the fastest time possible, your character is the champion of the race with a free-running suit that radically improves the performance of the human body, allowing you to run further and faster, jump further, land harder, and grapling hooks to reach things, out of reach. Also the suit is equiped with a powerful artificial adrenelin that will make you react alot quicker (slows down time like a matrix effect)
You and your wife have been making a very successful living off the race for years, you as the racer and your wife is your publisist and event manager. You are attending a race like any other event with the intension of winning. However when you complete the race in 1st place the finish line explodes and you are accused of being the culprate. Forced into the slums you and your wife are forced to survive and find the one who framed you and why
Fit the genre: My game doesn't really fall neatly into any of todays genre but if i would have to label it, i would go with a 3rd person thriller
What's the USP: The USP of this game is that it's a fresh idea and it's very fast paced, and will use exaggerated free running moves to scale to the highest and lowest points in the game. Finally the combat system will be based on unarmed combat unless you take someone gun(in which case you will have to drop it before trying to make another jump)
Who are the target audience: This game i want to be targeted at 18-60 year olds and for people who like the speed and intensity of a racing game, but want more than to just finish the line in first.
What makes your game fun?:
The unique way of traveling through out the city and differant moves/stunts that can be used while doing so. Buying upgrades for your suit to do more incredible stunts and all the combat is done without holstering a single firearm.
Week 2
Game Structure: My game will have a linear structure in the storyline, but will be free roaming for example you can either follow the story and complete the game or you can visit the slums and pickup contracts for hits or for reposetion of stolen item, which in return will pay you richly and allow you to upgrade your suit, your living space or you can do it for free to get reputation in the slums which will help greatly when fighting the corporations of above the clouds.
Single or Multiplayer: This game will only be available for single player on the campaign as there are no friendly npc's in the game apart from your wife. However there will be a multiplayer mode where you can race other players in the suits around a track/city
Realistic or Abstract?: This game is an abstract game as the world has completely changed and technology which doesnt exist, does in my game
2D or 3D?: This game will have to be made in 3D because of the free roam structure but however you could make a 2D platform version of this game
What platform will it be released on?: I would like this game to be released for Xbox or PC
Perspectives?: My game will be from a 3rd person perspective untill the adreneline shot is administered in which case it will then change to first person
Real world to game world: My game will have a few elements from the real world, for example i will have to upper level of the world ran by police and the lower levels will be just like slums today (corrigated iron huts, dirty streets). Also if you are to jump from too great a height you will die just like in real life.
Goals: The main goal of this game is to find as much evidence as possible to prove yourself innocent and to find out who did this and why? Also there are small milestones in the game where you will have to rescue a hostage that knows too much or your hideout will be exsposed leading to a intense police chase with planes, bikes and of course yourself
Objectives: The objectives in this game will consist of things like, scout out an area without being detected or take a hit for someone in return for a reward aswell as finding places with new tech to upgrade your suit with.
Mechanics: The main mechanic in the game is momentum, there will be a meter on your screen that shows how much momentum you have, if you have no momentum or little then your character won't be able to jump very far where as if the meter is full you will be able to make bigger jumps and do more death defying stunts however if your meter is full your character wont be able to stop dead so you have to find a way of stopping yourself. Another mechanic of the game is the Adreneline boost where you will change into first person mode, time will be slowed and you will be able to set targets on people's bodies, equipement or on ledges you need to reach. Finally the combat style is going to be hand to hand unless you take an enemies gun (in which case you have to drop before free running).
Secrets: In this game i'm going to put in government files which you can collect on differant people that have been framed before, finding them will give achievements and finding them all will unlock a special armor skin to use in the multiplayer mode.

Week 1
One paragraph:
Rapid Assaut Warfare is a full blown blood filled action-fest where humanity is plunged into a 33 year war with a violent, genocidal symbiot which controls both our machines and our bodys to destroy us. Half the world has already been taken... The rest will be up to you.
Back Story: The year is 2194 earth has been fully concentrated on building up the social and leisure aspects until what is thought to be a meteor crashes into the country of Mongolia. Surrounding countries tried contacting people of Mongolia to asses
the damage of the meteor but no response is heard, which leads to a scout party being sent into the country. The scout party reaches to outer rim of Mongolia and is ambushed by a symbiot organism that mutates our dna code and can control use and our machines, using them to create an attack force to spread the organism throughout the earth.
After a 33 year battle humanity has lacked in the ability to fight back against this enemy and as a result have lost half of the planet to the symbiot and the only reason we still posses the rest is because the organism cannot sustain it self in our waters. All hope seems lost until a discovery is made that all the nuclear plants in "The infected zone" are undamaged and clear of infection. This leads us to understanding that radiation hurts the symbiot and brings us to the conclusion that we need to use this information.
Your character is a soldier who joined the military 4 years before the meteor insident and has been promoted to the highest rank of soldier for helping in all war effort since then until you are called up by the secretary of defence for a new assault plan against the enemy. When you get there you are told about new technology designed for putting the conciousness of a person into a machine.
After more explination about how it works you agree to be a part of the new attack plan and sign yourself up. You are shown into a room with 6 chairs and people to sit in all of them, you sit down and are drugged in order to knock you out until you are awoken by the doctors to have your conciousness transfered into a heavily armored assault suit.
Fit the genre?:
Yes i believe it will fit it's genre of a thriller 1st/3rd person shooter as you are a war machine that has to fight the battle against hordes of hostile creatures.
What's the USP?:
The USP is that it's a game with gore and relentless action, the characters and enemies are going to be brutal and it will introduce a fully mechanical suit with an arsenal of wepons with both a 1st person and 3rd person fighting system also it has a very introcate storyline which stretches into a trilogy.
Who are the target audience?:
The target audience i want to go with for this game is 18-60 year olds who love brutality,action, science fiction and shooters.
What makes your game fun?:
It's a fresh new dramatic storyline with a majorly intense combat system where a player can use multiple wepons against the ever advancing enemy, capturing areas with heavy resourses, visiting destroyed city's of the world, defeating the many bosses in the game with multiplayer being available in the campain and for player vs player and the main goal of saving humity
Week 2:
Game structure: The game will have a a linear storyline with non-linear missions where you will have to choose a road to take depending on the size and danger of an area, for example you will get to a point where there are three paths, one being to some woods which have non infected tree's, this will be the easy route and will give you the least resources resulting in the least credits (currency of the game) then there will be hostile town which will be medium and then a mine which will be a very hard place to take due to the creatures breeding and living in there and will result in the most credits.
Single or Multiplayer?:
The game is going to be able to be played as both single and multiplayer on the campaign and a have a player vs player multiplayer system with the 6 "classes" of suit in the campaign.
Realistic or abstract?:
The game is going to have an abstract feel as america has had man made land built on to componsate for millions of survivors from the other land and an alien race will controll the other continent.
2D or 3D game?:
This game will have to be made in 3D.
Which platform will it be released on?:
My game will have to be released on PC and i would like it to be for Xbox aswell.
Perspectives?:
My game will introduce a 1st person shooter and a 3rd person fighting system and bring them together to be able to willingly switch between them depending on the situation.
Real world to game world:
My game will have alot of real world to game world elements, for starters the game is set on earth so your character will be visiting some major cities so there will lots of recognisable monuments, also in the more densly populated cities there will sometimes be more enemies than you can handle so you will have to think outside the box for example, if there is a damage skyscraper nearby you could wait for them to get close enough then shoot out the rest of the building using it to kill the enemies. Also when you come to an area with abandoned cars you can either rip off doors for shields by tapping A (On an xbox controller) or flip the car and use it as a body shield by holding A.
Goals: The main goal of the game is to get to the crash site deep in the infected zone and try to find something that will help us win the war, however there are smaller milestones in the game, for example the mission where you kill the first Gravemind (boss) you learn that the creatures minds are linked together. Also the Graveminds have the ability to mutate our biggest machines and when one uses a destroyer ship to cross our waters you must meet it and fight it at a dock built into the cliffs of dover, and the same situation with one that mutates a upgraded AC130 gunship airplane.
Objectives: Some of the objectives you will have in the game will be things like, go to this place and clear the area for a forward base to be built, also places will have to be cleared for the resources that are in the area. Aswell as being set rescue missions for small clusters of Civilians that have fought for their survival they are called "The Isolated" or "Iso's" for short.
Mechanics: The main mechanics of my game is that you can change between 1st person where you are a heavily gunned death machine which you can use to kick out extremely high firepower with limited maneuverability and 3rd person where you are a heavily armored melee equiped fighting force which can run, duck, roll, and kick ass, also my game will have alot of environmental mechanics for example crumbling buildings can be brought down by your char and cars can be picked up and used for cover, also i want the game to have "God of war" style executions when fighting the Graveminds.
Secrets: In the game there are going to be hiddem tombs or partchments and depending on which you will collect and get extra resources for, also if you collect all of them at the end you will get a video that shows a sneak peak at the planet in the secound game.
Achievements: You will recieve your first achievement when you complete the into mission and the first suit training mission, after that you will recieve them for every gravemind you kill and for every country you regain.
Character traits: Your character joined the Russian military at the age of 16, 4 years before the meteor incident and has been in the military ever since, all of your family and friends have been consumed by the war (which you see in the first mission when you will play as a soldier trying to evacuate Moscow during a ground breaking battle), because of this you have built your life around fighting for your survival and when you are told about an attack plan that could change the course of the war but has extremely high risk factor, you dont hesitate to take this chance in order to get some revenge.
Character: 1st person mode will have a Hud with a aiming cursor, lifebar, armorbar, ammo counts for each wepon and a close range motion tracker. You character will have all of the main wepons out at this point and will take more damage enemies but will kick out alot more firepower
3rd person mode will have a digital blueprint of your suit in the corner showing damage sustained to differant parts of your suit, when you change between the stances your wepons will retract into the suit and mellee wepons will apear aswell as getting a major armor bonus
Single player partner commands: When playing single player you will have an AI partner in the game that you can order with 4 commands used on the directional pad; Attack(up), Defend(down), At will(left) and Medical Mine(right) which is a command to use a rarely purchacable mine which can only be use on the other person, for example if you had one and your team mate was taking seriouse damage you could use the mine which would then lead to your character slamming the mine onto his chest which would then open out and incase him an extra layer of armor and the same when you command him to use it on your char. When the armor has all been shot or ripped off the suit underneath will also be fully repaired.
Weapon mechanics (player 1): In first person mode you will have 4 main wepons where only 2 can be equiped at once and 1 secondary, two of which (Mini gun and Urainium shell launcher) will be point and shoot wepons where it will be fired where the cursor is at that time, 1 main wepon and 1 secondary wepon (Anti air shotguns and Shoulder Cannons) are going to be target painted which is where you will hold down the trigger (or bumper in the shotguns case)

Mechanics: The main mechanics of my game is that you can change between 1st person where you are a heavily gunned death machine which you can use to kick out extremely high firepower with limited maneuverability and 3rd person where you are a heavily armored melee equiped fighting force which can run, duck, roll, and kick ass, also my game will have alot of environmental mechanics for example crumbling buildings can be brought down by your char and cars can be picked up and used for cover, also i want the game to have "God of war" style executions when fighting the Graveminds.
Secrets: In the game there are going to be hiddem tombs or partchments and depending on which you will collect and get extra resources for, also if you collect all of them at the end you will get a video that shows a sneak peak at the planet in the secound game.
Achievements: You will recieve your first achievement when you complete the into mission and the first suit training mission, after that you will recieve them for every gravemind you kill and for every country you regain.
Character traits: Your character joined the Russian military at the age of 16, 4 years before the meteor incident and has been in the military ever since, all of your family and friends have been consumed by the war (which you see in the first mission when you will play as a soldier trying to evacuate Moscow during a ground breaking battle), because of this you have built your life around fighting for your survival and when you are told about an attack plan that could change the course of the war but has extremely high risk factor, you dont hesitate to take this chance in order to get some revenge.
Character: 1st person mode will have a Hud with a aiming cursor, lifebar, armorbar, ammo counts for each wepon and a close range motion tracker. You character will have all of the main wepons out at this point and will take more damage enemies but will kick out alot more firepower
3rd person mode will have a digital blueprint of your suit in the corner showing damage sustained to differant parts of your suit, when you change between the stances your wepons will retract into the suit and mellee wepons will apear aswell as getting a major armor bonus
Single player partner commands: When playing single player you will have an AI partner in the game that you can order with 4 commands used on the directional pad; Attack(up), Defend(down), At will(left) and Medical Mine(right) which is a command to use a rarely purchacable mine which can only be use on the other person, for example if you had one and your team mate was taking seriouse damage you could use the mine which would then lead to your character slamming the mine onto his chest which would then open out and incase him an extra layer of armor and the same when you command him to use it on your char. When the armor has all been shot or ripped off the suit underneath will also be fully repaired.
Weapon mechanics (player 1): In first person mode you will have 4 main wepons where only 2 can be equiped at once and 1 secondary, two of which (Mini gun and Urainium shell launcher) will be point and shoot wepons where it will be fired where the cursor is at that time, 1 main wepon and 1 secondary wepon (Anti air shotguns and Shoulder Cannons) are going to be target painted which is where you will hold down the trigger (or bumper in the shotguns case)
